OVOP Intensive Training (OIT) Course in Rumphi.

OVOP Intensive Training Course was held at Rumphi District Assembly Chamber in Rumphi covering Chitipa, Karonga and Rumphi Districts.This 4-5 days training consists of wide range of topics including OVOP Concept Awareness, Value addition understanding,Practical skills for value addition (Agro processing) Marketing and Sales Promotion, Product label Design and Packaging, Participatory Business Training and OVOP Proposal Making & Assessment.

Training of Trainers workshop on Processing Specific food products at Bunda College.

OVOP Secretariat, Jomo Kenyatta University and Bunda College of Agriculture jointly organised the Training of Trainers Worshop on Processing Specaific food products. The Training was organised with assistance from JICA.

OVOP Business Training Course was held at Natural Resources College covering Mendulo, Malabada, Muona, Zumulu, Likangala and Lufiliya groups The training was conducted for 31 members from the new groups.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development nominated Dr. B.Munthali as the Leader of Delegation, and Mr. D. Moffat to represent Malawi One Village One Product Programme at the annual OVOP International Summit in Oita Japann.

Business Training Course (PBT) was held for 20 representatives of OVOP Mitundu Group. Mr.Uchikawa (OVOP), Mr. Moffat (OVOP), and Mr.Chinowa. (Community Development Officer) organized and conducted the training.

Japanese Teachers Visited Cassava Group.

The teachers delegated by JICA Chubu International Center visited Malawi on a study tour for the period 1st-11th of August, 2006
They visited an OVOP project site (Nankhaka Cassava flour group) on the 2nd August.

JETRO Visited OVOP.

On the 24 of July, JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization, Ministry of Trade and Industry of Japan) mission visited Malawi.
Their purpose of visit was to collect Malawian products to be displayed at the African Fair, which was held from 2nd to 4th September 2006 in Tokyo.

OVOP awareness workshop was held on the 10th July in Lilongwe.
District Commissioners (DCS) and Chief Executive, representatives from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, JICA and other development partners participated in the workshop.

JICA Consultation study team came to Malawi on 3rd-13th of July. They participated the Joint Coordination Committee meeting and OVOP awareness workshop for District Commissioners (DCS). They also visited some of OVOP project sites.

OVOP secretariat visited Kaporo Palm Oil Group and Hara Rice Association in Karonga to facilitate their activities. They also visited nearly proposed site in Mzuzu.

Vice President of JICA Visited Malawi.

Mr.Izawa, the vice president of JICA, visited Malawi, He observed OVOP Khumbo Oil Group in Blantyre. He paid a courtesy visit to the Head of the State. His Excellency Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika to exchanged views on cooperation between Malawi and Japan.

Trade Fair in Blantyre.
19-28 May. 2006
The Trade Fair was held in Blantyre on the 19-28th of May. The OVOP stand and groups were sponsored by JICA, OVOP Secretariat and the groups themselves. OVOP products during the fair include; OVOP rice, Orange, Tangerine fruit juices, Bvumbwe pasteurized milk. Banana wine, Baobab jam and oil, cane furniture and other OVOP products.
